Capanna Margherita Hut skitouring

Experience reaching Capanna Margherita (4,554 meters), the highest refuge in Europe, is a unique adventure that will take you into the heart of the Monte Rosa massif.
This ski mountaineering program is spread over two days and offers a spectacular route through glaciers and snow-covered slopes that provide breathtaking views of the entire Alpine range.
Accompanied by a UIAGM-certified mountain guide, you will face the challenges of the high mountains safely, immersing yourself in the majesty of the Alps.
The first day will be dedicated to the approach to Rifugio Gnifetti, where you will spend the night, and then continue the next day to Capanna Margherita, located at the incredible altitude of 4554 meters.
Here, the views will leave you breathless, with the peaks of Monte Rosa and views of the Swiss peaks silhouetted against a stunningly beautiful alpine backdrop.
Despite the fact that the technical difficulty is not high, the program requires good physical preparation, ideal for those who want to experience an intense adventure among the highest peaks in Europe.

Program

Day 1: Approach to Rifugio Gnifetti (3,647 meters).
Meet in the morning in Gressoney or Alagna Valsesia. After a brief safety briefing and equipment check, ascend by cable car to Punta Indren (3,275 meters). From here begins the ascent on skis and seal skins to Rifugio Gnifetti, crossing the Indren glacier and enjoying the first breathtaking views. The ascent takes about 2-3 hours, with arrival expected in the afternoon.
Dinner and overnight stay at the hut.

Day 2: Ascent to Capanna Margherita (4,554 meters).
Wake up at dawn and breakfast at the hut.
Depart for the ascent to Capanna Margherita, crossing the Lys Glacier. The route may require crampons to tackle the steepest or icy sections.
The ascent takes about 4-5 hours, until you reach Capanna Margherita, where you will enjoy one of the most spectacular views in the Alps.
After a stop at the hut, begin the descent to Punta Indren and return to the valley by cable car, arriving in the afternoon.

Travel Insurance

Any mountain activity carries a risk of injury. It is highly recommended to have insurance coverage for medical expenses and accidents, including search and rescue costs, even by helicopter.

It is the responsibility of each participant to ensure they have this coverage in place before departure.
